Open Question: why is my hp deskjet d2360 printer smell like burning plastic?

light keeps blinking rapidly,when the power or cancel button is pressed it slows down its blinking and then speeds up again,this happens when the cover is open or closed. The ink cartridge holder does not move,even with an ink cartridge inserted. And when plugged in to the computer via usb it says that the device has malfunctioned and is not recognized
