Wanderlei Silva promises to show the Vietnamese against Cung Le on Saturday

In the last eight fights, six were only two defeats and victories. There was a legend of MMA (mixed martial arts in English), the Brazilian Wanderlei Silva would have been fired from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Famous for the Pride of times when he made history in the sport, the "Mad Dog" has one last chance to show that even 35 years do not count and that he can continue in the sport's elite. The challenge will be on Saturday at UFC 139, against the Vietnamese Cung Le, 39, which debuts at the event.

Wanderlei comes from an ugly loss to Chris Leben. The Brazilian was slain by U.S. and knocked out in the first round at UFC 132 in July. At the time, the president of the event, Dana White had considered retirement fighter. But fate dealt another opportunity to give the veteran. The fight this Saturday should be between Vitor Belfort and Le, but an injury away from the Phenomenon and opened the door to the Mad Dog.

Given the opportunity - probably the last in case of another defeat - Wanderlei Silva did not show nothing but optimism for the showdown of the weekend. Yesterday, in a telephone conference, the Brazilian said he would come back with everything. "What happened to me before the Leben can happen to any fighter. I fight for 15 years and am in very good condition. I'll prove I can come back on Saturday to have great views. Retirement does not go through my head still. My performance on the Cung Le will bring me back to the scene with more force than before, "he said.

On the other side of the octagon, is a peculiar opponent. Cung Le has had 39 years and has only eight fights on his record - seven victories. The explanation for the low activity in the events is that the expert in Muay-Thai splits time with another activity, that of actor. From 1997 onwards, the Vietnamese played 15 times between films and television series. Still, Le should not be an easy rival. He was champion of Strikeforce, only event in which he fought so far, and won all his fights by knockout.

Asked if he would not be surprised if he tried to go over him as he did with Le Chris Leben, Silva admitted to be more cautious to continue his career.
