Open Question: Macbook pro question please read and Answer if you can?

The buttons(f5,f6) on my macbook bro aren't doing their job, which is to make my screen dimmer or brighter. I tried doing the apple support thing but they dont have any options for this kind od problem therefore i cannot proceed with talking with an apple person. Any help?
